Everyone is welcome to join a free and family-friendly bicycle ride around Menomonie’s Lake Menomin Loop on Saturday, August 10. The annual Meander is sponsored by the Menomonie Optimist Club.

The event starts at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Fanetti Community Center with a helmet giveaway for kids sponsored by the law firm of Doar, Drill & Skow. The firm is particularly interested in supporting events in the communities they serve and in promoting bike safety.

The Meander is a roughly 9-mile ride and begins at 9 a.m. The Lake Menomin Loop will appeal to families with young kids, as it is mostly on trails segregated from automobiles. There will be a rest stop with water and snacks halfway around the trail at Wakanda Park. A SAG vehicle will also follow riders in case of mechanical troubles or if riders tire.

The Menomonie Fire Department will station a fire truck at the Fairgrounds at the end of the bike ride for kids to explore. Culver’s has supplied gift cards for a treat for all riders. And all of this is for the price of absolutely nothing.

No prior registration is necessary — just show up. We strongly encourage riders to wear bike helmets.
